How to Embed Flickr Photos in Your WordPress Posts

Since this is photo week, I’ve discussed Photoblog Themes for WordPress and WordPress plugins for Photoblogs. Today I’m going to discuss adding Flickr photos to your WordPress posts.

Most of the photos I include with my posts are found on Flickr and have Creative Commons license. Sometimes I use my own photos but the bulk of them are from Flickr.

Adding a Flickr photo to your post is pretty easy. It is just important that you select photos that have a license allowing you to use them and that you give the owner of the photo proper credit. And for me, the hardest part, is actually locating the exact photo that I want to use.

Adding WordPress 2.7 Threaded Comments to your Theme

Probably one of the most talked about features of 2.7 is that threaded comments are built in. A plugin is no longer required for this functionality.

The problem is that it takes more that simply upgrading to 2.7 for this feature to be available. If you’ve got a brand new 2.7 ready theme then, yes, threaded comments will work. If not, you will need to make the theme “2.7 ready”.

So, you’re in luck because I’m going to walk you through the steps. I’m not sure if I like the way they look but I do like the functionality. I have saved my original files in case I decide to revert back.

How to Style a Sticky Post in WordPress 2.7

On Monday I finally found the sticky setting and on Wednesday I showed you how to add the post class to your template so that your sticky post would actually show up on the page.

Today I am going to show you how to style the sticky post. You might want it to look different from the rest of the posts, stand out in some way or not include the date.

Since we have already added the post class to our template, styling the sticky post only requires a little bit of CSS in the style sheet template.

How to Make a Post Sticky in WordPress 2.7

A sticky post in WordPress is one that stays at the top of the page no matter what gets posted after that. This is useful for a post that you want to highlight or for an announcement.

Way back the best way to make a post sticky was to fudge with the date – I would make it a date way in the future so it would stay the top post.

Then the WP-Sticky plugin was created, which allowed me to make a post sticky and gave me some control over styling. For example, if the sticky post is an announcement, I don’t want the date to be included because then it looks like a regular post.

If I bought every book that interested me, I would have two problems. First, I would be totally broke. And second, I would have no more room in my apartment and would have to build a new house out of the books.

So, I am a heavy user of my local library. Plus, most books, especially fiction, I am never going to read again so it doesn’t make a lot of sense to purchase them. I do collect fairy tale collections and books about elephants but otherwise I really don’t need to own all the books I want to read.
