WordPress Login Security
I probably login to 5 different WordPress sites every day and I’m becoming concerned about the lack of login security being used by clients. The username is admin, the passwords are words that aren’t hard to guess, the same password is used in WordPress, ftp and for the MySQL database and they don’t change the login after I have completed working on the site.
So, this post is going to be a gentle nag and is going to include a couple of basic security tips.
How to Conditionally Display WordPress Sidebar Content with is_page
In a non-widgetized sidebar you may have content that you only want to show on certain pages but not on others. I started thinking about this after my (Anti) Social WordPress Spring Cleaning article where Ajith mentioned that on my portfolio page I was duplicating the testimonials. I had the testimonials listed with each project and in the sidebar.
So, I decided to use conditional code to only display the sidebar testimonials on particular pages. This part of my site uses a different sidebar than the blog. You can see the testimonials on the About, Services or Contact pages but not on the Portfolio page.
WordPress Flash Uploader Fix for the HTTP Error
Last week I mentioned that I was having problems with comment moderation since upgrading to WordPress 2.7. Well, I was also having trouble with the flash uploader. I would get an error and have to use the browser uploader. Not a big deal but it annoyed me and slowed me done because I could only upload one image at a time.
So, I also decided to tackle this when I did my WordPress spring cleaning and I found a solution that worked for me.

Aahh … it’s April. The weather is getting warmer … well, I think it is – my house is very cold since the heat is turned off for the season. Apparently that builds character or so I’m told. And while I’m happy that Spring is here/coming April is not one of my favorite months. I’m not sure why but November and April are the saddest times of the year for me – maybe it has something to do with the change from one season to another. It also rains an awful lot in April. I don’t mind rain but since I walk everywhere and half the time I’m with a 6 year old, it can get a little annoying. Anyway, on to the links …
