WordPress 3.0 Released 6/17/10

One of the downsides of writing a bunch of posts ahead of time and obsessively sticking to a posting schedule, is that when something big happens you end up being a little late to the party. And I wish WordPress 3.0 hadn’t been released during the World Cup – there is just too many big things happening in too many of my interests all at once.

WordPress 3.0 has finally been released. I haven’t installed it on this site yet but I did install one of the betas on a test site a couple of weeks ago. There are some things that I really like but I think that developers are going to be more excited about it than the average user.

Video Highlights of the Upcoming Features in WordPress 2.9

Recently I wrote about some of the upcoming features in WordPress 2.9

So, since I know how to party over a holiday weekend, I decided to install the WordPress 2.9 beta version on my test server and take a look at some of these new features.

I was going to take a ton of screenshots and write another article, but I decided it would be more fun to make a video instead.

So enjoy my voice and listening to me trying to talk fast so I could fit everything in within 5 minutes.

WordPress 2.9 Upcoming Features

Before Coffee in the Morning (by Clearly Ambiguous)

WordPress 2.9 is due to be released on … soon-ish (probably in December) and I thought it would be fun to review some of the upcoming new features.

My biggest hope with this release is that there will not be as many security updates are there were with 2.8. I always say wait until the .1 release to upgrade but I did not foresee .5 with the 2.8 series. Yikes!

WordPress 2.8: Upcoming Features and Enhancements

The beta version of WordPress 2.8 has been released. It doesn’t look like there are a lot of major changes, like threaded comments, but there are a number of updates that will enhance blogging with WordPress.

Here’s a list of the ones that I think will be most useful. I’ve also included a link to the changelog in the Codex – makes for some very exciting reading. ;-) I’ve also included links to videos from people who have tested the beta version of 2.8.

Random WordPress Quotes Without A Plugin

Last month as part of my (Anti) Social spring cleaning, I added new testimonials and added a big block of them to the sidebar on certain parts of my site.

Ajith noted that they were a duplication of the testimonials on the portfolio page, so I used is_page conditonally so they didn’t show up on the portfolio page.

I was never really happy with the way that they looked, even though I kept playing with the style. I decided what I wanted to do was have random testimonial quotes display in the header the way that my last tweet on twitter shows up in the header on the blog part of my site.
