Today Facebook announced that that timeline layout was coming for Facebook pages on March 30, 2012.
We knew this was coming but until today we didn’t have many details.
Facebook’s announcement page didn’t include specific information about what this would mean for those of us who have created custom tabs using iframes so I dug through the Help file a bit and found answers to my most pressing questions.
If you have a facebook fan page or are an admin for fan pages, you have probably seen the message that says that boxes are being removed and the width of the page is being reduced to 520px on August 23, 2010.
I have received a number of emails regarding this issue. Some are questions and others are a little panicky.
I wrote about this issue last November. At the time Facebook said it was going to happen at the end of 2010. Well, here we are 9 months later and Facebook is keeping good on that promise. Periodically I would check the developer roadmap to see if anything had changed regarding this issue and all along it was still planned.
Facebook is planning a series of changes and improvements that will be rolled out over the next couple of months.
The most important of these changes for those of us with customized fan pages is that there won’t be any more boxes.
That’s right. No boxes! There won’t be a boxes tab, any applications that depend on boxes will need to be added, and we won’t have custom profile boxes in our sidebars.
Many things have been changing in my life recently and I thought I would share them with you. And the good thing is almost all of them are positive changes. They are related to work, food, comments, and family.
I am an excited and nervous all at the same time. I’ve got so much to do in the next couple of weeks – paperwork, projects, organization – that I feel overwhelmed but as I’ve learned over the last year and a half things usually work out for the best (or the way they need to) and that tasks are less difficult when you do them then when you are thinking about them.
