You have probably already noticed this in the WordPress dashboard but WordPress 2.8.1 was released a couple of days ago.
WordPress 2.8.1 fixes a number of bugs and corrects some security problems with the plugin administration pages.
If you have already upgraded to 2.8, I highly recommend that you upgrade to 2.8.1 as soon as you can. If you are still running 2.7.1, you should upgrade, but it doesn’t need to happen right away.
Happy 4th of July holiday weekend. I prepared this post but otherwise I’ve been celebrating by not using the computer. I even closed my email, which I almost always have open. It was hard at first but now it feels like a relief.

Last winter I wrote about photoblogging plugins for WordPress. Recently I’ve been using NextGen Gallery with clients and have become a lot more familiar with the plugin.
My friend Manshu also brought it to my attention that the screenshots on my portfolio were outdated. For example, we had installed Thesis on his site but my screenshot still showed his old theme. I decided to redesign the layout of the portfolio using NextGen Gallery. This gave the portfolio a new look and gave me more experience with the plugin.
The beta version of WordPress 2.8 has been released. It doesn’t look like there are a lot of major changes, like threaded comments, but there are a number of updates that will enhance blogging with WordPress.
Here’s a list of the ones that I think will be most useful. I’ve also included a link to the changelog in the Codex – makes for some very exciting reading. ;-) I’ve also included links to videos from people who have tested the beta version of 2.8.
