(Re) Learning to Play the Piano

I’ve been wanting a piano for quite some time. I took lessons for 5 years when I was a kid / teenager and, while I wasn’t any sort of musical genius I wasn’t bad either. I hadn’t really played in a long time and wanted to take it up again.

I was torn about this decision because I don’t like to spend money on things I consider luxuries and there is no way to get a “real” piano into my 3rd floor apartment.

I finally decided that I would get a digital piano but knew that it had to be as much like a real piano as possible; it had to have 88 keys and the keys had to be pressure sensitive.

10 Things I’ve Learned During My Adventures in (Anti) Social Dating

As I’ve mentioned in passing on this site and on Facebook, I’ve decided to start dating again. Thanks to dating texting advice, now I am more cautious about whom to date, and can avoid feeling broken this time. I’ve been divorced for two years now and for most of that time I was absolutely content being single/alone, more recently I’ve felt like meeting new people and having some fun.

Although about as soon as I’ve started I’ve felt quitting. It’s time consuming, filled with anxiety, and I’ve encountered some not very nice people. I’m not exactly shy but I’m not outgoing and meeting a new person makes me very nervous. People who’ve known me for awhile are surprised when I mention this though – apparently I project a facade of confidence.

Lessons Learned from My First Four Months of Freelancing

It’s already been just over four months since I started freelancing full time. It’s flown by … I really can’t believe it’s already been 1/3 of a year.

It hasn’t always been easy and there are some things that I wish I had done differently but overall I’m still pleased with my decision to leave my full-time office job.

Lessons in Backing Up – The Journalspace Disaster

I have frequently discussed the importance of backing up your data and only relying on yourself to do so.

I have written about backing up the important data on your hard drive, backing up your gmail, and backing up your WordPress installation.

At the end of last year, blogging platform, Journalspace, which I never heard of before this mishap, had a backup plan go awry and all of their customer data was lost.
