Thankful for My Friend Jim

I’m thankful for many things – my family, my health, weathering this year, and my friends. But, today being Thanksgiving and all (which I don’t really celebrate), I wanted to give a shout out to my friend Jim. Jim and I met three years ago when we both worked in Technical Support for the same company. We quickly realized that we shared the same sense of humor and had many similar interests even though there is quite an age difference between us. The actual job was ok but the management was horrific – laughing with Jim made it tolerable. I used to get the 4pm giggles over something ridiculous like a customer or one of our co-workers and would actually be scolded by our manager for laughing. Yeah, sorry I’m so happy.

Ok, sometimes I need a break from writing or fixing blogs or actually doing my day job but I still want to keep my mind alert. This is when I like to play casual games – hidden object or puzzle ones. Playing for a little bit gives me a break but doesn’t make me stupid like television or put me to sleep like reading and then I feel ready to get back to work.

One of the best sites that gathers the best of the best of the casual games is Jay is Games. The site description is,

Google Page Rank – A Sudden 3 Point Drop!!!

I’m not that bright

I will be the first to admit that I am ignorant about SEO, backlinks, page rank and all of these important things that assist in getting indexed by google and a good position in search engine results. My friend answers the occasional question I have, but I didn’t know anything about this sort of thing until September when Ajith wrote, Google Page Rank update – DollarShower.com is PR3 now!, and I discovered that I had a PR3. I then became slightly more interested in the topic and became a regular reader of his site. I also started emailing him questions. I also installed the Firefox add-on Search Status, which tells you the PageRank and Alexa Rank of any site I am visiting.

And much like Twitter, rankings don’t really matter to me. But I liked being a PR3 and was hoping to move up to 4. And PageRank seems to matter from a monetization point of view and I suppose it gives a site credibility.

Just 5 links this week but they are all quality ones. I collected more during the week but then pulled some of them. A commenter noticed that I was being especially negative lately and I decided to remove some of the snark. This week I’ve got Gimp tutorials, information about WordPress 2.7, using the WordPress visual text editor, free eBooks, and an article about blogging from Copyblogger.
