Somehow it’s already the end of March – I’m not sure how that happened. The trees are budding and the daffodils are blooming. We get a lot of rain here in April but overall it’s a gorgeous month.
This week I have information about twitter, sweetcron, social media monitoring, mental health in the United States, and three fun videos.
- Make a Twitter Site Using Sweetcron – Sweetcron is self hosted software, which I wrote about last summer, that allows you to run a self hosted lifestream. This article explains how to make your own personal Twitter site using Sweetcron. It even includes sweetcron templates, which is pretty cool.
- 13 Great WordPress Speed Tips & Tricks for MAX Performance – Noupe always has great articles. This one lists 13 ways to increase the performance of your WordPress site.
- How to Design a Twitter Background – Do you have a custom background on Twitter? If not, this tutorial takes you the process of creating one. I know that I’ve been meaning to update mine.
- Shameful Report Card: US Gets a D in Mental Health – Mike Nichols is back and has reported on each state’s ratings for mental health care. Overall the condition of mental health care in this country is shameful.
- A Quick ān Dirty Guide to Setting up Social Media Monitoring – How to set up alerts on your name or your companies name using tools such as google alerts, delicious, twitter, facebook and more. This might seem basic to some but it’s a great guide to getting started with social media.

Well maybe your cat saw that and that’s why yesterday she was jumping on the counter all the time… Just for the heck of it :P

LOL – She does like to watch tv and the computer. She is way too energetic, however, to have things piled on her. She is misbehaving because she is having hormonal issues.
Jim says
Thanks for another great list, Kim!
Mike’s article on mental health is fantastic. We should be ashamed of ourselves as a country.
And even though I’ve seen all 3 of the videos before, I still cracking up. Poor kitty!
Kim Woodbridge says
Hi Jim – I’ll have to stop sending you the videos throughout the week in
order to surprise you on Sunday. Although I frequently “steal” the ones that you send to me.

My top concern about our blog is the speed, I think slow loading blogs annoys everyone sometimes even when the content is great , bad speed can drive readers away, thanks for the link to speeding tricks and tips for wordpress, really appreciate it. Every time when you announce a list I found at least one great resource, almost getting addicted to your list.

I become very impatient with slow loading pages. I always wonder if it’s a code issue or a server problem.
I’m really glad you find my weekly list useful :-)

Hi Kim
This post comes just in time for me as guess what… I just signed up to Twitter finally yesterday! Not only can I now participate in discussions about Twitter and actually know what I am talking about, but I was also pleasantly surprised about how it is and stuff.
I have to say I love it wayyyyy more than Facebook, well I was never and probably never will be a fan of Facebook but that is besides the point.
So I am very interested in checking out those links about Twitter.
Kim Woodbridge says
Hi Evita – Well, you need to tell me your twitter username :-)
I think Twitter and Facebook are very different and I definitely prefer
Twitter.
Dennis Edell says
Two awesome articles I hadn’t seen on WordPress and social, thanks!

Hi Dennis – Great! I hope you are enjoying your weekend.

Sweetcron looks pretty interesting. A nice option for bringing together all of your social media for friends and family to see. A personal hub of sorts. Something to consider.
Kim Woodbridge says
Hi Gennaro – I like Sweetcron. It’s a self-hosted lifestream. It wasn’t too hard to set up. Customizing the theme is a little tricky and not too many exist out there. Someone asked me to make mine available but I keep forgetting to do it. I need to strip out personal stuff.
Although I like it, I haven’t really done anything with it since I first set it up. My feeds just sort of fill it up …
Mike Nichols says
Thanks for the mention on your list today! There’s so many ways in which the US is falling behind other countries in our mental health care. I firmly believe it is due to the stigma of mental illness that is rampant in our population. Of course, I can’t say that for sure, because there has been no national survey of mental illness attitudes, as there have been in the UK and Canada.
Thanks, too, for the WP speed-up article. I am doing some of them, but want to try out the WP Super-Cache.

Hi Mike,
It’s a wonderful article and I’m glad to see you writing again.
I haven’t had the best of luck with WP Super-Cache. I get it set-up but then I’m never quite sure if it’s working properly.
Tracy says
Sweetcron – hmmm, does the internet need more Tracy? I’m assuming the answer is yes.
I really wish we’d thought of making a cradloomba. The Malkinator might have let me put him down sometimes if we had!
Tracy´s last blog post – Pork Brains in Milk Gravy
Kim Woodbridge says
Hi – We definitely need more Tracy. :-)
Did you use a sling or some sort of carrier with Malkinator? I used a sling with Alex when she was a baby so I could sort of get things done.
Kikolani says
My cats would never put up with that… :)

Kim, this is perfect material at the perfect time! I have just come around to using Twitter to the fullest potential using TweetDeck. I was looking for a way to create a custom background, monitoring, and more… Now I have homework to do, thank you!!!
