This week I’ve got Twitter, Green Housing, Obama’s Blackberry, Productivity, Manuals, Gimp and Geeks.
- Twitter: Can Chaos Be a Biz Model – People argue that Twitter can be hard to understand because it is so chaotic and this article discusses how the chaos of twitter can be a business model.
- Low Income Housing Eco Style – This article shows that low income housing can be environmentally sound and affordable.
- Obama’s BlackBerry brings personal safety risks – Do you think President Obama’s Blackberry poses a security risk or that the administration has taken these issues into consideration?
- Why Trying to be Productive is a Huge Waste of Time – While I don’t agree with every point made in the article, I do think that too much emphasis can be placed on productivity for the sake of productivity. A lot can be said for doing nothing.
- OwnerIQ – Database of online manuals for a variety of electronic products. Very useful when you can’t remember how to use the self-clean feature on your fancy coffeemaker.
- 10 Websites to Help You Master Gimp Gimp is the open-source alternative to Photoshop. It’s very powerful but can be difficult to master. This list of websites should help.
- 50 Skills Every Real Geek Should Have – I guess I’m not a real geek because I don’t have all of these skills but I was surprised at how many I did have. Of course, the list assumes that a geek is male because it included how to hide your porn. And I don’t know any females that need this skill.

Hi Carla – I like that a lot too :-) I would love my apartment to be redone
with that in mind.

on the hiding porn bit…really? The majority of my female mates have more new porn on their computers on a daily basis then mine has seen in its life (not a lot..mostly in ze early teens).
I don’t believe it!…more women watch porn then guys!

Well, that’s my experience. You must know very different women than I
do or else it’s an issue of our age difference :-P

The article about Obama and his Blackberry is interesting. I got a chuckle about it when I heard he got to keep it but I hadn’t really considered the safety issues involved with it. Really interesting read. Thanks.

Hmm, I’m not much of a geek considering that list, although there are some that were easy. :)
And I agree… sometimes doing nothing lets the mind relax enough to have the energy to be super-productive again, vs. tired and only semi-focused on the things we are trying to get done.
Great links!

Hi Kristi – Thanks! The only problem I find with doing nothing is not feeling guilty about it.

I have never heard of GIMP, following your link I have found many positive comments about it, it sounds like a nice alternative to photoshop, will give it a try.

I have just installed GIMP and read more articles that compare photo vs GIMP and comments from both sides and finally decided photoshop is better, as most people said GIMP is good mainly because it is free, you can do almost anything with GIMP which you can do it with photoshop, but it takes more steps, and need quite long time to learn it. It is still good if you want a free application which can do basic tasks quickly, but if you have photoshop already do not even try GIMP.

Hi – If you already have Photoshop and know how to use it, then
it is certainly the better solution. I don’t have Photoshop and don’t
do enough work with graphics to justify the expense of purchasing it.
So, I use GIMP. If they were the same price than Photoshop would
be the winner is a direct comparison. GIMP does, however, have the
advantage of being open source.
I’m glad you tried it out – I don’t think it’s an easy program to use.
