Recently I wrote about premium responsive themes, which are themes that will adjust to the size of the device on which they are being displayed. As mobile devices are becoming used more and more this is going to increase in importance.
Here are a collection of free responsive themes.

Been searching for a new theme for a new blog and stumbled on this excellent list. Thanks for sharing, will try them out, I like simple and minimalist themes that load fast.

Wow this could certainly come in handy for a couple of new blogs that I’ve been aiming to get up and running. One free theme I love is Atahalpa since it’s so customizable. Do you by chance know if it’s responsive? How can you tell (without testing on your phone or tablet)?

Hi David – I haven’t heard that theme is – I would go ahead and ask the developer if it is or if they have plans to make it responsive.

Self adjusting themes for the device form factor is a very good thing to have. I know how much I struggle to support my mobile theme (plugin based) to make it look decent in at least those popular devices.
However, one needs to know how to manage the content (especially images, video embed, long titles, blockquotes, bullets,…) well to suit all types of rendering. Most themse take care of images etc but may not always produce good looking content on all devices.

Hi Ajith – That’s a good point. There probably is quite a bit of back-end management that users will have to become familiar with. I haven’t spent much time with this yet but is on my to-learn list. :-)

It is definitely good to see more attention and thought being given to mobile devices. Thanks for posting about these themes.
