I’ve mentioned a handful of times that I really like to read and that I average about a book a week.
While I lean toward science fiction, I will read almost anything. Right now I am reading an autobiography of Ozzy Osbourne, I Am Ozzy
There a 5 authors that I read every book that they have written. Even if some of their books disappoint me, I will read their books as soon as they are released or as soon as I can get it from the library.
I am often asked how I manage working from home. People tell me that they aren’t disciplined enough to do it and that they would goof off all day.
There is no magical solution as to whether you have the discipline or not.
And how I deal with this issue is really quite simple.
Email may be an efficient method of communication but it is frequently not the most effective.
Because email lacks tone and nuance it is very easy to misinterpret the mood of the individual on the other end. For example, I am frequently trying to get through my emails quickly so they are terse – short and to the point. I’ve had people ask me to be more patient or they think I’m in a bad mood. And that it isn’t the case at all – I’m just trying to answer emails and move on to the next task.
I haven’t figured out a way to seem less impatient or grumpy in my email other than using exclamation points – “thanks!”. Perhaps if I express excitement than I won’t be perceived as out of sorts.
I am having some serious dental issues and am in a lot of pain. The work I need done is going to be starting today.

Over two years ago I asked if people follow written instructions.
I thought that whether they did or not was related to their learning style.
Today, I would have to say that most people just don’t bother.
I feel like all I’ve done recently is write detailed instructions only to have the person write back and ask me questions that were answered in the instructions. Not that I don’t enjoy saying the same thing over and over and over again but, really, make some effort rather than expecting others to do ALL of your work for you. I even try to say the same thing in different ways and often include an attached document with pretty pictures.
How about instead of saying “the instructions didn’t work” say “step #6 confused me, could you please clarify that?”
I have a kid and I often have to say the same thing to her over and over. But, she is 8.
We all need help at times but sometimes we need to help ourselves.
