Happy Spring!! It’s been gorgeous in Philly the last couple of days.
This week I have WordPress, bike routes, natural dyes, questionable food, and more.
Enjoy!
- 9 Plugins Your Clients Will Love For Their WordPress Website – Some useful plugins for clients and pretty much everyone else. Since I used to work in tech support, the Technical Support plugin makes me laugh a little.
- Google Maps Finally Bikes There – Google Maps has added bike directions and a facilities layer, which shows bike routes. Philadelphia was one of the data contributors of this project. The maps aren’t perfect but it’s a step in the right direction for our car-centric culture.
- Ads Posted on Facebook Strike Some as Off-Key – I would have to agree. Some Facebook ads are just plain creepy.
- How to dye Easter eggs naturally – a tutorial – In my ongoing quest to become more green I decided we would dye easter eggs naturally rather than using the kits from the store. My first attempts have not been completely successful (well, that’s partially because my garlic loving cat got eggs out of the basket and batted them around the house until they cracked) but it’s been a lot of fun. We used grape juice to make purple eggs and tumeric for yellow/orange.
- Why Your Employees Hate Your Guts – I had a number of low paying barely livable wage jobs when I was younger. And in many of them I worked harder than in high paying jobs. So, I was really able to relate to the sentiment of this article.
- 10 Features to Look Forward to in WordPress 3.0 – I’m excited about the next version of WordPress and am hoping to test it and do a video soon. I’m especially interested in the Custom Post Types and the Custom Taxonomies. I have a database of my video game collection and using Custom Taxonomies with WordPress could be a great way to manage and display the collection.
- 1996 McDonalds Hamburger – This article is 1.5 years old but in it is a 12 year old McDonald’s Hamburger. It really isn’t food – it’s chemicals.

And this must be the worst burglar ever.

Hi Kim,
I always adored these anti- social list of your blog.
I loved the funny ads of Facebook, I too never figured out that what is the link between the dancing women and the mortgage sale.
Thanks for such interesting links.

Hi Rick – Thank you :-) I’m really glad you like the lists.
I don’t like it when Facebook ads target me based on my age – it’s weird.

Oh, I could relate to “Why Your Employees Hate You”, too. I remember when I worked at the bank, part of our job was to enter the details of when a mortgage/deed of trust was filed with the county into a customer’s account.
Of course, most of the upper level bank employees, including our direct bosses, had their mortgages with our bank and this was during the peak of people re-financing, etc so we didn’t have to snoop to see what sorts of loans they were getting, it was falling on our desk every day.
It’s super hard to get motivated to put in 110% with a company that’s nickel and diming you over every minute you work when your bosses are able to buy half million dollar houses and taking out 100K lines of credit to install top of the line kitchens. Or coming into work after standing in line since 2 that morning to get your kid a place in one of the few public schools that’s halfway decent, only to have your VP’s wife come in with your 3 kids all in uniforms from the private school that costs almost as much as you make a year, per child.
Thing is, I’m not opposed to people at the top making more, but if you’re getting it by not paying your employees enough, don’t be surprised when they have no loyalty or motivation.

Hi Tracy – It’s a frustrating issue. I also think that people at the “top” frequently do the least amount of work. Would the business suffer more if they all left for the week of the people not making the livable wage?

Hey hold on just a sec here, we’re being jipped!
WP can’t just skip over ver. 2.9.3 4 5 6 7……can they?? GREAT! Now we need something else to fill our time once per week. *sigh*

Hi Dennis – Sorry – you’re going to have to jump right over to version 3 ;-)
Dennis Edell says
The biggest irony of it all – the way I wait for stabilization before upgrading…it’ll be at least 3.1-3.2 before I do. LOL

Kim Woodbridge says
Hi Dennis – I usually wait too :-) Not as long but I don’t upgrade immediately.
Dennis Edell says
Not as long. No worries with WP, it’s never more then a month. lol
