On Facebook Pages, which is news and information for the admins of Facebook fan pages, I see the same questions asked over and over and over. And many of these questions can be answered by doing a quick search on Facebook.
The most frequently asked question is “how can I change the name of my fan page?”
Well, here’s the answer.
You Can’t Change the Name of Your Facebook Page
That’s right. Unfortunately, it can’t be done, even if have a typo. If you want to change the name of your page, you have create a new page.
Yep. You need to delete the page and make a brand new one.
Hopefully, Facebook will change this in the future and allow us to edit the name of our fan pages but until that time be very careful when naming the page, triple-check for typos, and carefully consider what you want to call it.

Ching Ya says
Yup, sadly we can’t edit or at least have a chance to correct typos. Maybe it’s FB way of saying ‘take this seriously for we’re not going to clean up your mess’. :P Hopefully there’ll be a day, when errors can be adjusted. Everyone deserves a second chance, doesn’t it? ^^
Glad to be your first commenter on 1st Feb, 2010! Can you believe time flies?

Hi Ching Ya – I can’t believe it’s February either :-)
I think they should allow us to edit the title – I don’t think it would be hard to implement the feature. Although I can see people changing their titles around to try to get more traffic or work the system in some way.
Jacob says
I think that they don’t let us change our Facebook page name because then you would be able to change the name into another whole topic, that some people wouldn’t like that liked the other name you had for your page.
Kim Woodbridge says
Hi Jacob – The name can be changed now if there are less than 100 fans. That change happened in the last couple of months.
Ileane says
Hi Kim, this information is very timely for me. I decided that I would create a fan page this week so I’ll make sure to create in properly.
Thanks.

Hi Ileane – That’s great! There are a lot of things I wish I had known before I got started :-)
There are other Facebook articles on this site that might help you under the Facebook category.
Ari Herzog says
Interesting bait you got there, luring folks like me who already knew the answer and wondering if you had a different one. ;)

Kim Woodbridge says
Hi Ari – Yeah, it’s my snark post of the month or maybe week. I see this question over and over and I think people need to realize that it just can’t be done – at least for now.
Julie | Resume Services says
Fortunately, I researched that before I settled on my company name but there are days when I wish I had researched the company name before I named it… :-) Thanks for the “surprise” answer.

Kim Woodbridge says
Hi Julie – Not much a surprise really – more of a smart aleck response ;-)
I wish I had added more info to the title of my facebook page for search results. But, at least I spelled it correctly ;-)
Carol Dunlop says
I think that is one of the stupidest things that FB has done, although some others do come to mind quickly. But to make you delete the whole thing and start over is totally ridiculous.
I totally feel you on spelling, I did another page for my other company and caught the spelling too late, I already had 40 fans, luckily they all moved over. LOL
Kim Woodbridge says
Hi Carol – Good think you noticed before you had too many fans.
I really think Facebook needs to address the fan page issues – simple changes that need to be made. I would even be willing to pay a fee to have the features and ads removed.
Katrina says
I don’t understand this at all – I often get emailed from FB and they say “so and so has changed the name of their fan page from this to this…”! I need to remember to ask the next person who does that so I can ask them how, because I’ve seen it done.
Kim Woodbridge says
HI Katrina – I’m pretty sure that they have created a new page with the new name and they are sending all their friends and fans a message directing them to the new page.

Centsible Girl says
I hope they change this, I need to change mine as well! If anyone finds a way, please let me know!
Thanks!
Kim Woodbridge says
A lot of people wish they would change this but for now nothing can be done about it.
Sam Hepburn says
Oh darn.. Well, I suppose if they’re your real fans, they won’t mind your typos ;)
Namit Gupta says
Misspelled Facebook Page name can be corrected Now. Refer to this article http://www.theitechblog.com/1083/change-misspelled-facebook-page-name-how-to
Kim Woodbridge says
Hi Namit – Thanks I read about that this week – it’s for pages with under 100 fans.
Tuan @Online Tech News says
Yeah, you can change Facebook Page’s name now, if necessary, we can delete some fans to change its name.
Jon says
Would also love it if Facebook would finally allow page admins to change the name of their page. There are many legitimate reasons why people would need to update/correct their brand name, sometimes only after they have started to build a following on Facebook.
I can understand why Facebook haven’t allowed it so far, but it really is a pity. I also don’t see why it can’t be implemented the same way as Facebook username changes where you have to submit a name change request which then gets reviewed. Surely that would work?
Kim Woodbridge says
Hi Jon,
The name of a page can be changed if it has less than 100 fans.
http://www.kimwoodbridge.com/the-facebook-page-name-can-now-be-changed/
Jon says
Hey Kim
Thanks for the heads up. I am aware of that, but we’ve got well over 100 fans, so nothing we can do for the moment short of making a new page, which would take us back quite a long way in terms of the Facebook following we’ve developed so far.
Kim Woodbridge says
Hi Jon – Yeah – they don’t have anything else. And it’s a little frustrating because older pages didn’t have the 100 fan limit and were never able to make the change before becoming more established.
Andreas Christodoulou says
I understand why facebook doesn’t let you change the name of your page. Because if you could, someone might create a page of the band scorpions for example or someone famous. Collect a lot of fans and then change the name. His band, or his name or something stupid
Kim Woodbridge says
Hi Andreas – They also have rules in place about what you can or can not use – you aren’t supposed to use someone else’s name or company. It could also be difficult to set up your own profile if your name were Brad Pitt ;-)
lucy says
Just double checking – I have 400 fans, if I delete 301 of them and have 99 remaining, will I be able to change the name?
Kim Woodbridge says
Hi Lucy – That’s a good question and I don’t feel comfortable answering that with 100% certainty. Logically it should work but we are talking about Facebook where logic does not always apply.
Terri Holley says
Hi Kim,
I just saw The Oprah Winfrey Show’s Facebook status saying that they are changing the name of their page. Do you think Facebook is just doing this for them? This would really be a nice feature.
Kim Woodbridge says
Hi Terri – I’m sure Facebook is giving them special treatment and it’s probably related to how much the show spends in advertising with Facebook.
Frank Dank 420 says
It can be done, the solution, go to Account, upper right hand corner. On the drop down select Account Settings, select change. You can change your name and username.

Kim Woodbridge says
Yes, it can now be changed if there are less than 100 fans.
Namie says
:( Facebook should let us change our page title i set up my Photography fan page last week and now i have over 200 Likes but cant change the page title because of this “This option is only limited to Pages with less than 100 connections”. I dont want to kick half of my fans in order to change my title name. :(
