Frequently, I finish up a task and discover that I only have 10-15 minutes until I have to go pick up my daughter or until my next phone call. And I often find that I end up mindlessly sitting at my desk clicking around at nothing and I feel like I wasted the time.
So, I started thinking about what I could do with that 10 minutes and came up with the following list.
The List
- Clean the litter box. This only applies if you have indoor cats. If you don’t, you are welcome to come clean out mine.
- Check Facebook and leave super witty and clever comments. If you are lucky, people will “like” them. ;-)
- Reply to comments on your blog
- Unsubscribe from newsletters that you no longer read rather than just deleting them.
- Leave a comment on someone’s blog post.
- Check twitter and retweet some of your followers.
- Answer a couple of quick emails. (if you have such a thing).
- Start a load of laundry, fold some clothes, empty the dishwasher.
- Find the perfect image for your next blog post.
- And as my friend Pat suggested, sit and do nothing.
How about you? What do you do with 10 leftover minutes?

#4 is the one that I’ve been working on lately. I tend to sign up for everything and anything that offers something for free and then I have an inbox full of newsletters and most of them are just about sales. I’ve only been keeping the ones that have some value.

Hi Danielle – Me too! I just have too many and have been unsubscribing all week.

hmm, Let me see.. Brush my teeth, change, and put my make up on… oh, look for the keys..
Kim Woodbridge says
Hi Pam – Those are good ones. I’m a stickler for putting things in the proper place so fortunately I always know where my keys are.

I’m writing this comment with the ten minutes I have this morning.

Hi Karen – lol :-)

Excellent suggestions, I find myself there often. I usually check things I forget too otherwise, like stats.
Kim Woodbridge says
Hi Dennis – Wait! You don’t check stats obsessively every 10 minutes each and every day ;-)
Dennis Edell @ Direct Sales Marketing says
Until recently, 1-2x per year, true story. lol
I’m getting into it a little more, since I’ve started promoting a little more then just blog commenting.

Your list is mostly what I do the rest of the time and try and squeeze real work into the ten minute gaps between tweets and checking Facebook ;-)
Kim Woodbridge says
Hi David – Funniest comment of the day :-)

Hi Kim,
that was a pretty good list. Since my inbox overflows, 10 minutes would let me delete a batch of unneeded ones. I am also horrible at snail mail. Using 10 minutes periodically, I could process some of that and make it go away. I could also clear a pile of paperwork, clean under a bed, vacuum a room, brush Teddy… On it goes. Now I will need a 10 minute nap!
Kim Woodbridge says
Hi Julie – Aaahh … I didn’t think of the 10 minute nap.
Playing with the cats is a good idea – sometimes I think they don’t get enough attention.
Henway says
i spend 10 minutes doing linkbuilding and responding to emails.
Kim Woodbridge says
Hi Henway – Sounds like good choices.

I think I have an internal priority system that I check through when I have 10 extra minutes. Email and voicemail are at the top of my list. Once those are done, it’s usually blog related stuff.
Kim Woodbridge says
Hi TJ – Checking voicemail is a great idea!

Google things like ‘what to do with 10 minutes’, which is how I ended up here…now I have 7 minutes.
