October is here and Halloween is almost upon us. Alex has been talking about it non-stop but doesn’t believe me that she was a ballerina last year because that’s what she wants to be this year.
As I’ve mentioned before I’m not really into holidays but I do like Halloween.
Here are 9 WordPress themes for Halloween for your site decorating enjoyment.
Barbara Ling, Virtual Coach says

Kim Woodbridge says
Hi Barbara – I know! To me it seems like the year just started.
I actually saw Christmas cards at the drug store yesterday – ugh!
Jim says
I’m a sucker for Halloween. I like a lot of these themes.
That bat is evil on the 4th theme!!!
Kim Woodbridge says
Hi Jim – I thought you would like these – didn’t find any zombies though ;-)
It’s a freaky looking bat.
Leslie says
I love Happy Halloween but cannot for the life of me figure out how to use it now that I’ve downloaded it. WP only seems to want to let me choose from THEIR themes, not the cool ones you’ve posted. What am I missing?
.-= Leslie´s last blog ..Travel, soccer, theme parks and grandparents =-.
Kim Woodbridge says
Hi Leslie,
Go to Appearance > Add New Themes and then click on the 2nd link that says Upload. It’s between Search and Featured. This is in WordPress 2.8+
Leslie says
I think the problem may be that I’m using wordpress.com to host my blog. I need to be able to host it myself in order to upload a new theme, don’t I? I don’t see anything that lets me upload…
Kim Woodbridge says
Hi Leslie – You’re right. Unless you pay for extra features, you can only use the themes that WordPress.com provides.
vered | blogger for hire says
Some of these are adorable. I’m sure my kids would be THRILLED if I temporarily changed my theme for Halloween, but my readers would probably think I have lost my mind. :)

Kim Woodbridge says
Hi Vered – LOL – I would think that you were just being festive. :-)
Madhur Kapoor says

Kim Woodbridge says
Hi Madhur – Thanks. Just some searching I guess. I can’t imagine actually using any of them.
Matt Dunlap says
Usually I hate autorunning audio loops when visiting a website, but I think for these these a nice spooky sound loop would be perfect
.-= Matt Dunlap´s last blog ..Business Blogging – Blog For Your Customers Not For Your Competitors =-.
Kim Woodbridge says
Hi Matt – Maybe :-) I think I would still be annoyed by the autoplaying music.
Ravi Kuwadia says
Hey Kim,
These themes are amazing… I am tempting to try it, but I recently had my blog’s theme changed, and I think it won’t be suitable to immediately change the theme.
But thanks for these wonderful themes suggestions.

Kim Woodbridge says
Hi Ravi – These themes would be good for a site about Halloween or
if someone wanted to dress up their theme for the holiday.
Ale @ Vampire Halloween Costumes says
Hey Kim, as you can see from my comment link, Im promoting Halloween, I wish Id found these themes earlier because I had to make do with something else I had…I’ll know for next year though!
.-= Ale @ Vampire Halloween Costumes´s last blog ..Love Bite Vampire Costume =-.
Kim Woodbridge says
Hi Ale – It can be so frustrating when you discover something too late but you will be ready for next year :-)
Claudia Brownlie - SEO Consultant says
Hi Kim: Thanks for the fun themes . Might use one of these on one of my blogs. But I’m getting a “page not found” for the “Happy Halloween” theme?? Just thought I’d give you a heads up – maybe it’s a temporary thing.
Have fun with your trick or treating!
Claudia

Kim Woodbridge says
Hi Claudia – Thanks – the site was there a couple of days ago. I’m going to keep my eye on it and see if it comes back.
Carla says
I love Happy Halloween, but I think I would realistically use the Cafe Halloween or Halloween Town theme since its a little cleaner than Happy…
.-= Carla´s last blog ..Green and Chic Store Makeover & SoLi Design Studios Review =-.
Kim Woodbridge says
Hi Carla – I agree – both of those themes are very clean and could easily be adapted.
Rick Castellini says
Two quick questions, if you don’t mind:
1. If I decide to use a holiday theme for a few days, does it seriously upset any customizations I (you) did for another theme? Or have problems with existing plugins?
2. Do you think sites like mine should not monkey with themes for holiday reasons? i.e, keep it professional?
Ok, there are 4 question marks in there, but 2 true questions.
ps…I’m still thinking about that awesome corn chowder you posted .
.-= Rick Castellini´s last blog ..Printing Error Messages* =-.
Kim Woodbridge says
Hi Rick –
1. You have customizations that are directly on the templates so changing the theme temporarily would affect those features. The one that pops to mind is the footer.
2. I think it really depends on what your site is about – some of your readers would love it and I think others would get confused.
I’ve made the corn chowder twice now – Alex loves it!
Rick Castellini says
I think that for a guy with my skills in WordPress themes, I may bypass some of the fun stuff… Thanks for the feedback as always!

Costume Finder says
Hey, just thought I would point out another halloween theme that we are distributing for free.

Kim Woodbridge says
Hi – Thanks for the info – I really like the purple in that theme.
Donace says
some brilliant themes..may need to use one or two of these :p
.-= Donace´s last blog ..Mafia Wars Collections and Items =-.
Kim Woodbridge says
Hi Donace – Are you really going to change your theme for Halloween?
Ravi Kuwadia says
Nice templates for halloween, but i would like them will real people pictures instead of cartoon graphics
Kim Woodbridge says
Hi Ravi – I guess photos of real people in costumes would be kind of cool. Most of my Halloween photos are of kids though rather than adults.
Sire says
A nice selection of themes Kim. Lucky for me my theme allows me to change the way it looks with great ease, and I’ve consequently change it to reflect Halloween. The hardest part, being an Aussie, is trying to come up with posts to suit the theme ;)

Kim Woodbridge says
Thanks Sire :-) You could do an article about pumpkin carvings or crazy costumes.
Pete @ Large Hamster Cage says
I love the colors on myHalloween – it reminds me of a cosy night in front of the fire while it’s cold outside! And the pumpkin looks quite cute, not at all scary :D I also love the illustration in the last theme, Halloween in Blue – clever use of the RSS logo on the front of the coffin.
Kim Woodbridge says
Hi Pete – I wonder if that is a clever use of RSS – until you pointed it out, I didn’t even notice it there ;-)
Pete @ Large Hamster Cage says
Ha ok yeah that’s a very good point! I guess it’s only clever if you aren’t interested in getting any new subscribers! Still, I imagine there’s a happy middle ground – perhaps having the RSS logo stood up at an angle like a gravestone, with grass around the base and spooky spider webs hanging off it.
