Last Winter I posted 5 Simple WordPress Themes and I think it’s time to list some more.
I would like to make my home more simple and minimal as well – there is just so much stuff. I’m slowly giving it away but kids make it really hard to live simply.
But in today’s maddening world I think we all yearn for simplicity so here are 10 more simple and minimalistic WordPress Themes.

Siel says
I know this isn’t the intent, but these theme roundup posts kinda stress me out because I get all worked up about whether or not I should change my blog theme to one of them! :P
Siel´s last blog post – Kiehl’s wants you to recycle and be rewarded
Kim Woodbridge says
Hi Siel – I like your theme. :-) I know what you mean though – some articles I read make me feel like I should do things differently.
Natural says
the first one works well for a photo blog. i’m not sure if i should start one or just use my flickr account. :/
Natural´s last blog post – Mirror, Mirror on the Blog….
Kim Woodbridge says
Hi Valerie – You seem to be really into photography so a blog might be a good idea. You have more control over the display of them too. But by using flickr there’s less pressure to update and stuff.
I had a post about photoblogging themes – they might be better for photoblogs than that first one.

Jim says
I kind of like the really simple themes. Now if only we could get Beckham in one of them. ;-)
Kim Woodbridge says
Hi Jim – There’s nothing simple about Becks ;-)
Paulubiadas says
I never prefer simple themes since they are very common and I don’t think that it would have a big impressions on my readers.
Paulubiadas´s last blog post – Download the free copy of the MasterPlan
Kim Woodbridge says
Hi – I guess it depends on what you are doing with the blog. I like reading blogs with simple themes as it’s easy to read the content. But I also know that a lot of people don’t have the same taste that I do.
stratosg says
Well partially Paulubiadas is right. It’s nice having a complex theme with not too much going on but graphically challenging. On the other hand it’s like saying “my content sucks so visit for the graphics” like mine :P. So, i guess it’s all about style. If you feel simplistic or gigantically artistic :) On the other hand i get the feeling of changing my theme almost every six months or so and as it seems i swing between the two.. Nice post Kim…
stratosg´s last blog post – Interview with Madhur Kapoor
Kim Woodbridge says
Hi Stratos – Your content doesn’t suck :-)
I feel like changing my theme but them it seems like too much work right now. I don’t know if I would go with any that minimal though. If I started with something like that I would probably change it quite a bit.
Gennaro says
I wonder if minimalistic themes will come back into vogue. There is such a push in the Web 2.0 direction that it seems that a backlash is likely. Maybe elegant simplicity.
Gennaro´s last blog post – Restaurants Of Florence
Kim Woodbridge says
Hi Gennaro – I don’t think of 2.0 of being overly fussy or detailed. What is the opposite of simplistic? I think 2.0 sites are much cleaner than the ones that came before.
And now I need a really good definition of web 2.0 ;-)
Vered - MomGrind says
The Kallista theme is beautiful.
Vered – MomGrind´s last blog post – Fear of Rape
Kim Woodbridge says
Hi Vered – Glad you liked it :-)
Angie Mizzell says
Kim,
Thank you so much for this post! I recently subscribed to your blog and these suggestions are very helpful, as I’m currently building my self-hosted wordpress blog, moving over from blogger. Right now, I’m playing around with the Vigilance theme, but I can’t wait to check these out!
Kim Woodbridge says
Hi Angie – Thanks for visiting and subscribing :-)
I just took a look at Vigilance and really like it – there is an even a discussion in the WordPress forum about how it compares to Thesis. It seems familiar to me but I’m not sure why.
Drew Strojny says
Glad to hear you both like Vigilance!
carla says
I always feel like I should change my theme!
Kim Woodbridge says
Hi Carla – I think I’m going to start a theme changers support group ;-)
Now where is Rick?
Mike Nichols says
Black Cat and Carrington are both very attractive — but the others are, too. I made myself choose 1 or 2 favorites. You’ve got a nice selection today, Kim!
I notice that all these themes are 2-column. Would one of your criteria for choosing a simple theme be that it has 2 columns rather than 3?
The thing about simple themes is that they *encourage* reading, as opposed to complicated ones where you have to search for the content. And let’s not even discuss those complicated ones overloaded with flashing ads. I leave before I even bother to search for the content!
Kim Woodbridge says
Hi Mike – I don’t think I even thought about the columns in determining what is simple. But apparently it seems that 2 columns wins for simplicity. I think with 3 columns it looks cleaner when they are both on the same side.
Raju says
superb collection Kim!! I love Carrington the most. But there are so many out here which I had never seen before!
Raju´s last blog post – Top 10 Free Tools to Create RSS for Any Website
Kim Woodbridge says
Hi Raju – Thanks! I’m glad you like them.
Ajith Edassery says
I am in the look out of a new theme. The criteria is that I need a narrow sidebar on the left and a wider one on the right and it should be tweakable :)
The themes listed here are really good in their simplicity. I liked simplistica for its looks (minus the box on the content)
Ajith Edassery´s last blog post – Traffic Android for bulk social bookmarking & backlink building
Kim Woodbridge says
Hi Ajith – I read your article and made a possible recommendation.
Even if you don’t find an exact match the columns can be moved and the sizes adjusted. I’m curious to see what you end up selecting.
Dave says
Ooh, I quite like the look of Titan. I wonder if it uses custom hooks…
Dave´s last blog post – Thesis revisited
Kim Woodbridge says
Hi Dave – LOL – We can only hope ;-)
Drew Strojny says
Dave,
Glad you like Titan!
Sorry, no custom hooks. We are intentionally not creating a theme “framework”. Trying to stay lean and mean :)
Linda says
nice simplistic themes but I tend to like color on mine.
Kim Woodbridge says
Hi Linda,
One nice thing about starting with a custom theme is to customize it and add the colors that you want.
Barbara Swafford says
Hi Kim,
I didn’t know there were so many simple themes. Although I don’t like a lot of clutter on my blogs, I do like some color. I’m in the process of changing the theme on one of my blogs and can’t make up my mind. My readers must be wondering what the heck is going on, but today I found one I really like so may switch to that and stick with it – for awhile. LOL
Barbara Swafford´s last blog post – Are Introverts Better Bloggers
Kim Woodbridge says
Hi Barbara – You might want to join the support group I’m starting for people who want to change their themes all the time. We’re thinking of making Rick president. ;-)
Madhur Kapoor says
Great Post Kim. I like the Titan theme. Maybe i will have it on my blog someday.
Kim Woodbridge says
Hi Madhur – Dave likes that one too. :-)
Angie Mizzell says
Hey Kim,
Thanks for your feedback. I like that Vigilance is clean and relatively easy to use. Blog writing is more my thing than blog building! But it has been pretty fun to try to figure out.

Colleen says
Very nice selection of themes. Thesis remains my favorite for it’s simplicity.
Colleen´s last blog post – Country Ridge Homes | Richland Washington
Kim Woodbridge says
Hi Colleen – I try to only feature free themes. Thesis, however, is a great choice for a clean and simple looking theme.
Drew Strojny says
Kim,
Thanks for featuring Titan! I appreciate it.
Kim Woodbridge says
Hi Drew – Thanks for stopping by and thanks for the great themes :-)
